HAMPTON, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a pair of games at the Hampton Classic Saturday Morning at the Lady Pirates Softball Stadium.
The Bonnies fell to Norfolk State, 10-1, in five innings in game one and then battled Hampton, falling 7-6 in nine innings.

The Spartans' bats came to play in the first inning in Saturday's opener, scoring five runs in the opening frame to pull away early.
The Bonnies pulled one back in the bottom half of the first when Emily Lewandowski reached on an error, scoring Olivia Whitecar.
Norfolk State (4-2) added insurance runs in the second and third innings, taking a 7-1 advantage. The Spartans tacked on another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to earn the victory.
Emily Phalen earned the start for the Bonnies, striking out six batters while only walking one.

The Bonnies and the Pirates headed to the fourth inning tied, 2-2.
Madison Stewart stepped up in the top of the fourth and blasted her first home run of the season over the left-centerfield fence, putting the Bonnies ahead by a run
Brooke Bobbey stepped up three batters later and singled to left field that allowed Whitecar to score on an error on the throw back in to the infield, pushing the Bona lead to 4-2.
The Brown and White held a two-run lead until the bottom of the sixth when Hampton's Emily Kepple belted a two-run double to center, tying the game.
Neither team was able to push across the winning run as the game headed to extra innings.
Following a sacrifice bunt that moved Samantha Moll to third, Kennedy Haberl singled to center, scoring Moll.
The Pirates (6-2), however, scored the tying run in the bottom of the eighth and the teams played on.
The Bonnies once again were able to push the go-ahead run across in the top of the ninth after Whitecar scored on an error.
Hampton leveled the score, 6-6, after Kepple led off the inning with a double.
Two batters later, Kiaya Jeusi singled through the right side of the infield, scoring Kepple and giving the hosts the walk-off victory.
Tierney Fitzgerald got the ball in game two, going the distance and striking out two batters while allowing 11 hits.
The Bonnies are back in action Sunday, Feb. 20 against Norfolk State and Hampton beginning at 9:00 a.m.
