Phelan Strikes Out Career-High; Bonnies Earn Split With Buffalo

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A complete game, two-hit effort from sophomore pitcher Emily Phelan lifted the St. Bonaventure University softball team to a series split with Buffalo Wednesday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Bonnies (7-23) grabbed game two from the Bulls, 2-1, in a pitchers' duel that saw just five hits between the teams.

Buffalo (14-11) was able to take game one, 7-2.

Buffalo grabbed an early 1-0 in the opening inning when Alexis Lucyshyn doubled to center field.

The Bonnies were quick to tie the contest in the bottom half of the inning off an Olivia Moon RBI double to right, scoring Grace Perechinsky from first.

In the bottom of the second, Grace Walker lined a triple down the right field line and came across to score on the play following a throwing error from the outfield, giving the Bonnies their first lead of the afternoon.

The Bulls, however, reclaimed the lead in the top of the third, 3-2, on an RBI single and a wild pitch.

Buffalo plated four insurance runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Madison Fernimen.

Emily Phelan shined in the circle for the Bonnies, striking out a career-high eight batters and surrendering just two hits while walking one.
