ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to Fordham in a three-game Atlantic 10 series Saturday and Sunday at Joyce Field.
The Rams (26-18, 14-6 A-10) were able to edge out the Bonnies in game one, 2-1, before taking game two, 13-2. Fordham completed the three-game sweep with an 8-2 victory in game three.
Following Sunday's season finale, the Bonnies honored their six graduating student-athletes – Samantha Moll, Alyssa Ramarge, Abigail Stone, Ally Haskell, Emily Lewandowski and Grace Perechinsky.
Game 1 – Fordham 2, St. Bonaventure 1 – Box Score (PDF)
The Bonnies (8-38, 1-23 A-10) were able to strike first in the bottom of the first, scoring on an RBI groundout from Grace Perechinsky, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Neither team could get anything going until the top of the sixth when Bailey Enoch tripled home a pair, putting the Rams on top 2-1.
Fordham starter Devon Miller shut the door on the Bonnies in the sixth and seventh to earn the victory.
Emily Phelan got the start for the Bonnies, tossing a complete game and striking out six.
Game 2 – Fordham 13, St. Bonaventure 2 – Box Score (PDF)
Fordham got the bats going in the top of the first when Allie Clark drove in a pair on a single down the right field line. The Rams added a third run in the inning off another RBI single, giving the visitors a 3-0 edge.
The Bonnies, however, cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the second. Perechinsky got the Bonnies on the board with her sixth home run of the season. Later in the inning, Samantha Moll reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Madison Stewart to cross home.
The Rams added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the third courtesy of an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, pushing their lead to 5-2.
Fordham tacked on three more runs in the fourth, taking complete control of the contest. The Rams scored a ninth run in the top of the fifth before a four-run seventh inning, earning the doubleheader sweep.
Game 3 – Fordham 8, St. Bonaventure 2 – Box Score (PDF)
Strang gave the Bonnies an early lead with a single up the middle in the bottom of the third.
Fordham took control of the game in the top of fourth, batting around and plating eight runs in the inning on six hits in the inning.
The Bonnies pulled one back on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth, but that is all the closer they would get.
Phelan earned her second start of the weekend and struck out seven.
