Volunteer Program

Do you have a passion for St. Bonaventure Athletics?
Then this is the perfect way to get involved!

The St. Bonaventure Athletic Department is building a strong system of Bonaventure Athletic Fund Volunteers throughout the nation. Volunteers serve as the local contact for regional BAF members and Bonnies fans, and work closely with the Athletics Department staff. There is no better way to be connected and involved with St. Bonaventure Athletics than through the BAF Volunteer Program.

Who can be a BAF Volunteer?
Anyone. Volunteers are Bonas alumni, former student-athletes, parents of current or former students, and just plain Bonnies fans. All you need is a passion for St. Bonaventure and a willingness to pitch in some of your time and energy.

What do BAF Volunteers do?
Volunteers will be segmented depending on their background and/or interests. Alums of a sports teams may work with just that team, helping reach out to fellow alums to increase annual donations to their program or setting up specific events; for example, an alumni game or cookout. Regional BAF Chapter volunteers will work within the region where they live. During the 2008-09 school year, we want to set up BAF Chapters in these regions: Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Charlotte and New York Metro.

What are some examples of BAF Chapter work?
On May 30, 2008, a small group of volunteers led by Don Eichenauer '76 organized and ran a Golf With The Bonnies tournament at Wildwood Country Club near Rochester. There were approximately 60 players including men's basketball coach Mark Schmidt, women's basketball coach Jim Crowley, men's soccer coach Mel Mahler, women's soccer coach Manoj Khettry and Athletics Director Steve Watson. The Rochester BAF Chapter is committed to running this tournament every year at different sites around their region. Their work includes invitations, marketing, billing and all tournament preparations.

Other traditional events which include BAF Volunteers are the coaches luncheons held in Buffalo every fall and the annual Golf With the Bonnies Tournament at Bartlett Country Club on the first Friday of May. Other planned events include socials before and after basketball games and BAF socials and meetings outside of basketball season.
