After a highly-successful four-year career in the Brown and White as a player, Kieran Malone enters his third season as an assistant under head coach Larry Sudbrook.
In addition to day-to-day administrative responsibilities, Malone works with the hitters, assists coach Sudbrook with defensive strategies, helps the players with academic and training responsibilities, and arranges team travel.
In his first season in 2009, Malone’s instruction helped four different players hit over .300 and a total of seven players post at least a .284 batting average. The former second baseman also help the Bona infielders also improved on defense, committing 12 less errors than the previous season.
No stranger to St. Bona baseball, Malone was a freshman starter on the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship team. Malone helped the Bonnies win 107 games over his four seasons, making 167 starts along the way. A two-year captain, Malone was not only a member of the A-10 championship squad, but also helped the Bonnies win a program record 18 A-10 games in 2006.
The Albany, N.Y. native capped his career in style with a .339 batting average his senior season in 2007. Malone finished his four seasons with a .283 batting average and ranks sixth all-time in at-bats (586), seventh in doubles (40), 11th in hits (166) and 12th in runs scored (102).
Malone graduated in 2007 and is now pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Finance/Accounting and a double major in Finance/Business Information Systems in addition to his coaching responsibilities.
