Rizzo's hit gives Bonnies 5-4 win over Monmouth
March 9, 2006 BOCA RATON, Fla. - Joe Rizzo's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave St. Bonaventure its first win of the baseball season, a 5-4 decision over Monmouth on Thursday afternoon at Florida Atlantic University. Rizzo's line drive up the middle plated junior catcher Adam Grap, who had been hit by a pitch. Grap moved to second base on a sacrifice by sophomore centerfielder Randy Moley and advanced to third on a ground out by junior shortstop Josh Perkins. The Hawks then issued an intentional walk to junior first baseman Brian Pellegrini that brought Rizzo to bat. The Bonnies tied the game in the eighth inning when senior designated hitter Dan Bratys' ground out scored sophomore outfielder T.J. Pennino to make it 4-4. Rizzo finished 3-5 with two RBI and one run scored. Moley went 2-4 with three stolen bases and a sacrifice, and Pennino finished 2-3 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run. Sophomore Cody Vincent started on the mound for St. Bonaventure and allowed two runs over 6-1/3 innings a struck out five. Junior Eddie Williams was credited with the win after throwing the final 1-1/3 innings. St. Bonaventure is now 1-3 while Monmouth is 1-7. The Bonnies will play Monmouth again each of the next two days.
