Bonnies romp past Drexel, 19-8

PHILADELPHIA - St. Bonaventure pounded 19 hits and took advantage of eight Drexel errors in a 19-8 rout of the Dragons on Saturday at Drexel Field.

The Bonnies opened a 5-0 lead with five runs in the third inning, highlighted by a grand slam by senior third baseman Josh Paine. A six-run sixth inning moved St. Bonaventure's lead to 13-2 and the Bonnies cruised from there.

Senior Kyle Johnson allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts over six innings. He improved to 2-1 on the young season.

Junior shortstop Eric Wilson led the Bona attack. He went 4-6 with two RBI and two runs. Senior outfielder Mike Rapacioli hit his first home run of the season and finished 3-5 with two RBI. Paine totaled six RBI on the day while freshman outfielder Dan Bratys was 1-4 with four RBI and four runs. Junior center fielder Matt Landahl went 2-3 with three RBI.

St. Bonaventure improved its record to 5-3 while Drexel fell to 2-9.

The Bonnies and Dragons will meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
