Last inning rally propels Bonnies to sweep at Canisius
March 26, 2003 BUFFALO, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure staged a last at-bat rally in the opening game and went on to sweep at doubleheader at Canisius on Wednesday, winning 11-8 and 6-1 at Demske Sports Complex.
St. Bonaventure improved to 10-7 on the season while Canisius fell to 0-12.
In the opener, the Bonnies were trailing 8-7 going into the seventh inning. Sophomore second baseman Craig King doubled to score senior left fielder Greg Osganian, who had walked, to tie the game. With two outs, an error by Canisius third baseman Gabe Baida allowed two runs to score. Senior third baseman Josh Paine followed with an RBI single.
Junior Soren Johnson, who was the Bonnies' fifth pitcher in the game, was credited with the win after throwing 1-1/3 innings of scoreless, hitless ball.
Sophomore Mike McCormack dominated in the nightcap, allowing just one run with nine strikeouts over his five innings of work. He upped his record to 3-1.
The Bonnies scored all the runs they would need over the first two innings, scoring twice in the first and once in the second. Junior shortstop Eric Wilson drilled a two-run double in the first inning. He finished 2-4 with four RBI.
Senior outfielder Mike Rapacioli recorded a pair of hits in both games and finished the doubleheader 4-7 with three RBI and five runs scored. He hit his third home run of the season in the opener, a three-run shot in the fifth inning.
King also collected two hits in both games and finished 4-6 with three runs.
The Bonnies return to action on Friday, March 28, to play their home opener, a doubleheader against 11th-ranked Richmond at McGraw-Jennings Field. First pitch is set for noon.
