Final Stats

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - In a game that included 30 hits in 85 at bats, the St. Bonaventure baseball team opened its home season with a tough 12-9 loss to LeMoyne Wednesday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.

With the score tied at eight heading into the eight, LeMoyne's Jamie Rose blasted a grand slam to pull the Dolphins ahead, 12-8. The Bonnies started a one-out rally in the ninth, but LeMoyne pitcher Craig Soja was able to put the game away. With runners second and third, Soja got rookie Randy Moley to hit into a ground out to end the game.

Both teams opened the game with hot bats, as the Bonnies outscored the Dophins 7-4 over the first two innings. Bona starting pitcher sophomore Mike Proctor gave up six runs and four runs in just over one innings work. The Bonnies blasted LeMoyne's Alan Drechsler for five runs on five hits facing up until the second batter in the second.

The Bonnies tacked on a run in the third on a single from sophomore Brian Pellegrini for his third RBI in the early going.

Following two scoreless innings, a two-RBI double off the bat of catcher Corey O'Neill jumpstarted a Dolphin rally in the sixth. LeMoyne plated two runs in the seventh on a homerun over the left field fence from Robby Perez to start the inning. Six batters later Keith Connors plated the second run on a single to right field to knot the game at eight all.

LeMoyne's Andre Enriquez earned the win on the mound, allowing just one hit over 1 1/3 innings of work. Enriquez came out of his position at third base as the Dolphin's fifth relief pitcher. After allowing Rose's grand slam, Bona junior Matt Agostinelli took the loss and fell to 2-1 on the year.

Senior catcher Damian Blakeley led the Bonnies, going 3-for-5 on the day with two runs scored and a couple of steals. The Bonnies totaled 14 hits to the Dophins' 16.

The loss dropped the Bonnies to 11-9, while LeMoyne moved to 9-8.

St. Bonaventure returns to action tomorrow, April 7, at Bucknell for a double-header beginning at 2:00.
