Bonnies take one from Canisius
April 16, 2003
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure came from behind for an 11-10 victory over Canisius in the first game of a doubleheader at McGraw Jennings Field. The second game ended in a 3-3 tie after seven innings, due to darkness.
As in their first meeting the Bonnies rallied in their final at bat to beat Canisius. Down 10-8 in the bottom of the sixth, junior Eric Wilson's pinch-hit triple drove in sophomore shortstop Craig King to cut the lead to 10-9. Wilson scored on the next play after an error by the first basemen. The Bonnies scored the winning run when senior leftfielder Greg Osganian singled home senior first basemen Kevin Ryan, who had reached on the previous error.
Junior Soren Johnson scattered four hits and didn't allow a run in three and two thirds innings of relief to pick up the win. He improves to 2-2 on the year.
In the nightcap, the Bonnies trailed the entire game before tying the score at three on senior centerfielder Mike Rapacioli's solo home run. The game was called after the seventh due to darkness.
Junior Nate Cameron started and went four innings, yielding two hits and two runs, one of which was unearned. Junior Matt Landahl pitched the last three innings, giving up one run while striking out five.
King led the Bona attack going 4-7 on the day, including his first home run of the year, two RBI and five runs scored. Rapacioli went 4-6 with one home run and two RBI. Senior third basemen Josh Paine, Landahl and Osganian each also collected three hits on the day.
St. Bonaventure improves its record to 15-10-1 while Canisius falls to 2-21-1.
The Bonnies return to action Friday when they travel to Temple for a doubleheader starting at noon.
