Bonnies split doubleheader at Temple
April 19, 2003 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - St. Bonaventure scored two runs in the second inning to take game one from Temple at Erny Field today.
Temple grabbed the 1-0 lead early in the first after John Quigley scored off a double to left center field by Al Roach.
Sophomore shortstop Craig King started the Bonnies' rally in the second with a single to center field. King advanced to second when freshman leftfielder Dan Bratys was hit by a pitch. Senior third basemen Josh Paine singled up the middle allowing King to score from second. Bratys scored the winning run with sophomore catcher Damien Blakeley picking up the RBI.
Senior pitcher Kyle Johnson improved to 6-1. He pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits, two walks, and stuck out three.
In the second game, the Owls beat the Bonnies 1-0 on a solo home run by Fred Hilliard in the second.
Senior pitcher Kevin Niemczura took the loss. He pitched six innings, giving up four hits and four walks while striking out two.
King led the Bonnies' attack going 3-5 on the day.
St. Bonaventure improves its record to 16-11-1 overall and 5-5 in the Atlantic 10. Temple moves to 13-16 overall, 6-5 in the A-10.
The Bonnies complete the series at Temple tomorrow at noon.
