BUFFALO, N.Y. - Behind the left arm of freshman Cody Vincent the St. Bonaventure baseball team defeated Buffalo, 5-2, in the nightcap of the Big 4 Classic tonight at Dunn Tire Park. With the win, the Bonnies advance to Wednesday's championship game against Canisius.

Vincent allowed seven hits and one earned run while striking out three. He did not walk a Buffalo batter over the nine innings. It was the longest outing of his young career.

Buffalo got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning, when David Amaro singled to bring home Joe Mihalics to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead.

St. Bonaventure responded in their half of the fourth, as Joe Rizzo doubled down the right field line to start the inning. Senior Damian Blakeley then blasted his fifth home run of the season over the left field wall to give the Bonnies a 2-1 advantage.

The Bulls tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth on a Phil VanHorne sacrifice fly that plated Andrew Wengert.

Freshman T.J. Pennino and senior Shane Sudbrook led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a pair of singles, giving the Bonnies two runners in scoring position with no outs. Senior Craig King then laid down a safety squeeze bunt that resulted in a RBI single, bringing home Pennino. Sophomore Brian Pellegrini's single to left field brought home Sudbrook to lengthen the Bona lead to two, at 4-2.

The Bonnies made it three straight innings with a run in the sixth, as sophomore Matt Mardeusz scored on a UB wild pitch. Mardeusz reached base on a singled and advanced to third on a King's single.

The championship game of the Big Four Classic will pit St. Bonaventure against Canisius, which defeated Niagara 8-7 in 10 innings on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 at Dunn Tire Park. Admission is free and the game will air in the Olean area on WHDL 1450 AM radio.
