June 19, 2008

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The summer days keep passing by and the postseason accolades keeping stacking up for St. Bonaventure baseball and management sciences graduate Randy Moley.

On Thursday afternoon, the Lancaster, N.Y., native was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in a voting conducted by the conference's 14 Athletic Directors.

Moley is the first student-athlete at St. Bonaventure to be awarded the league's overall scholar athlete award on either the men's or women's side.

"Randy had a senior season on and off the field that will be remembered at St. Bonaventure for a long time," said Director of Athletics Steve Watson. "His dedication on the field and in the classroom was remarkable. He is the ideal role model for all of our student-athletes."

Moley sported a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) over his four years as a Bonnie, earning him a spot on the Dean's List and A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of his eight academic semesters. Moley claimed back-to-back A-10 Baseball Student-Athlete of the Year honors in his junior and senior campaigns, respectively. Moley made his third consecutive appearance on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team this season and was deemed a first team Academic All-American. At the 2008 commencement ceremony, Moley was the male recipient of the Award for Overall Excellence in Management Sciences.

Just yesterday, Moley was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Northeast Region first team, in recognition for his play in the field. Moley was also named to the A-10 All-Conference first team this season, as he set program single-season records with 84 hits and 61 runs scored in his 53 starts in center field. Moley led the Atlantic 10 with a .406 batting average, highlighted by 26 multi-hit performances. The speedy center fielder was one of four players in the A-10 with at least 30 stolen bases and is just the fifth Bonnie to reach that plateau in a single-season. Moley was a force at any spot in the lineup, reaching base in 52 of 53 games resulting in a league-leading .494 on-base percentage. Moley also led the Bonnies with 20 doubles, six home runs and 56 RBI.

Moley garnered some national recognition at the beginning of the season when he was featured in "The Faces of the Crowd" in the May 12 issue of Sports Illustrated. Moley etched his name all over the Bona record books over his 179 career games played. A three-year starter in the outfield, Moley is second all-time in runs scored (137), third in both hits (213) and doubles (46), and fifth in batting average (.350) and stolen bases (54).
