Bosnik named to NYCBL All-Star Team

July 6, 2008

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure baseball sophomore to-be Jesse Bosnik (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) has been named to the New York College Baseball League (NYCBL) Western Division All-Star Team as a representative of the Brockport Riverbats.

Bosnik is one of three players from Brockport to make the mid-summer break team. The Riverbats are currently in the midst of an eight-game winning streak that has pushed their mark to 16-7 on the season, just two games out of first place in the Western Division.

The All-Star game will take place on Monday, July 7, at 7 p.m. in Watertown, N.Y.

St. Bonaventure's full-time shortstop in 2008, Bosnik currently leads the Riverbats in nearly every offensive category while starting all 23 games. The St. Mary's, Pa., product currently leads the team in batting average (.385), runs scored (23), hits (37), doubles (10), RBI (20), slugging percentage (.542), on-base percentage (.478) and stolen bases (9). Bosnik's 37 hits and 10 doubles both lead the entire league. A left-handed batter, Bosnik's most impressive stat of the young season might be his .542 batting clip (13-24) against southpaws and .472 (17-36) average with runners in scoring position.

Bosnik completed his first full season in the Brown and White this past spring. One of three position players to start all 53 games for the Bonnies, Bosnik helped guide St. Bonaventure to its second-best win total in program history (29) and its third consecutive appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Bosnik finished the year with a .259 batting average on 51 hits, highlighted by 12 doubles. He also drove-in 30 runs, while finishing third on the club with 37 scored. Bosnik ended the season on a 10-game hit streak - his longest of the season - and finished with 12 multi-hit performances.

The league gives college players who have not yet signed a professional contract the opportunity to develop their skills at a high level of play, gain experience with wood bats and be evaluated by scouts. The NYCBL is located in scenic upstate New York.
