Postgame Quotes
Coach Schmidt’s Opening Statement:
It was a good first game for us, give Mansfield all the credit they
kept on working. We had a hard time covering Carr inside and they
did a good job from an offensive standpoint spreading us out. They
shot the ball well enough to keep us honest and we had trouble
inside with the big guy; he’s six-foot-six, 286 pounds with
great hands. I thought there were spurts where we looked good and
there were times where we didn’t. In order to be successful
we need to defend and rebound and that’s something we
didn’t do well with tonight.
Coach on Hall and Nicholson’s value to the
team:
The disappointing thing is that we’ve got to have everybody
working together. It can’t just be two guys on offense it has
to be the whole team. We need Jon and Andy to play defense and we
need to improve with these guys leading us in our improvement.
Improvements to Make:
The concern isn’t the shooting the concern is the defense.
They score 45 points in the second half- that’s unacceptable.
The score 74 points for the game- that’s unacceptable. We
knew they were a good team; it’s just that we didn’t
execute the way we needed to execute.
On setting up the rotation:
I thought that Da’Quan Cook was OK. For him to get nine
rebounds at that critical blue-collar hardnosed four position was
good and if he can do that we’d be a better team for it. This
game was to get their feet wet and they got their feet wet. Did
they play well? From a coach’s perspective no. That’s
why you play an exhibition game: to get out all the jitters.
