D’Lancy Carter selected by Dakota Wizards in NBA D-League Draft

ATLANTA, Ga. — Former St. Bonaventure men’s basketball player D’Lancy Carter will get an opportunity to continue his dream of playing professional basketball, as the 6-foot-10 forward was selected by the Dakota Wizards on Thursday evening in the NBA Development League draft.

Carter was picked in the fourth round with the 54th overall pick. The NBA D-League draft featured eight rounds of selections by 16 teams.

“It feels good to have the opportunity to keep playing the sport I love,” said Carter, who is finishing up his degree at St. Bonaventure this semester. “I’m ready to show what I’ve got and prove to club that they made a good pick.”

Dakota is an affiliate of the Washington Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies. The Wizards have made the NBA D-League playoffs in each of their three years of existence in the league. The franchise is located in St. Bismark, North Dakota and is coached by recent Los Angeles Clippers assistant Rory White.

After beginning his collegiate career at Vincennes University, Carter joined the Bonnies in 2007 under then first-year head coach Mark Schmidt. Carter averaged 6.6 points and ranked 17th in the Atlantic 10 in rebounding (6.2) in 2007-08. That same season, Carter finished seventh in the conference in offensive rebounds (77), while leading the Brown and White on the boards 11 times. Carter started 28 of 30 games as a junior and posted three double-doubles.

For his career, the Houston native started 35 games, accumulating 312 points and 292 rebounds, including 117 on the offensive end. Carter led the Bonnies in rebounding 16 times, while shooting 45 percent (124-274) from the floor.

Carter will report to preseason camp on November 15. The Wizards will begin their 50-game season on Saturday, Nov. 28 against D-League newcomer Maine.

Nine of the 10 former players from different Atlantic 10 schools that were entered into the draft were selected. Former Charlotte forward Curtis Withers was the highest pick also going to the Dakota Wizards with the 11th overall selection in the first round.
