Wickenheiser handles a myriad of coaching, recruiting and administrative duties for head coach Jan van Breda Kolff and oversees the Bonnies' flourishing summer camps.
Last season, in his first year at St. Bonaventure, Wickenheiser helped the Bonnies win 17 games and advance to the NIT.
The 30-year-old Wickenheiser was an assistant coach at Wagner in Staten Island, N.Y., under head coach Dereck Whittenburg in the 1999-2000 season. There, Wickenheiser's duties included coaching and player development, recruiting, academic supervision, compliance and summer camp organization.
Prior to joining Wagner, Wickenheiser was an assistant coach for four years at famed DeMatha Catholic High School in Washington, D.C., under Hall of Fame coach Morgan Wootten. Wickenheiser helped recruit and coach players such as Joseph Forte, who went on to star at North Carolina and now plays for the Seattle Supersonics, and Keith Bogans, a senior All-American at Kentucky. DeMatha finished in the top six in USA Today's high school rankings in both 1998 and 1999, going 31-1 and 30-3, respectively. Wickenheiser also was DeMatha's freshman basketball coach for two years and assembled a record of 50-2 with two league titles. Additionally, he helped direct Wootten's summer camp for eight years, coordinating over 3,000 players each summer. Wickenheiser also taught chemistry and biology and served as moderator for the science club at DeMatha.
Wickenheiser graduated magna cum laude from Muhlenberg (Pa.) College in 1995, earning a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. He was co-captain of the Muhlenberg basketball team his senior year and helped the Mules to a Centennial Conference championship and the NCAA Division III Tournament. Wickenheiser began his college basketball career at Colgate University his freshman year, 1990-91.
Wickenheiser and his wife, Cathy, have two sons, Chase (5) and Christopher (born April 2002).
