Atlantic 10 releases Men's Basketball schedule

Aug. 26, 2008

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's basketball 2008-09 schedule is now complete with the announcement of the Atlantic 10 Conference slate on Tuesday afternoon.

A hectic month of January highlights the conference slate for the Brown and White as four teams visit Bob Lanier Court, including an Xavier club that advanced all the way to the Elite Eight in 2008 and NCAA Tournament participant Saint Joseph's. St. Bonaventure will open its conference schedule with games against its three travel partners: Fordham, Duquesne and the Hawks.

The Bonnies will begin A-10 action on Wednesday, January 7, at Fordham's historic Rose Hill Gym. The game between St. Bonaventure and the Rams will be one of two games being played on the A-10's opening night of league play and the first of two games between the clubs in January.

St. Bonaventure will then return to the Reilly Center for its only back-to-back home stretch in conference play. The Bonnies' A-10 home opener will be on Saturday, January 10, against Duquesne, while a visit by Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, January 14, completes three games in the opening week of league play for the Brown and White.

After making a weekend trip to Richmond (Jan. 17) to take on the Spiders for the fifth consecutive season, St. Bonaventure will return to Bob Lanier Court for a highly-anticipated matchup against the defending A-10 Regular Season Champ Xavier on Wednesday, January 21. The Musketeers finished No. 12 in the final Associated Press Poll after accumulating a program record 30 wins. Schmidt was an assistant coach at Xavier for seven seasons under the late Skip Prosser.

The Bonnies will close out January with a pair of road games sandwiched around a Wednesday, January 28, home meeting with Fordham. Prior to that, St. Bonaventure will travel to Dayton (Jan. 24) and will follow the home contest against the Rams with a trip to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne (Jan. 31).

After a week off from game action, St. Bonaventure will return to the RC on Feb. 7 for a Saturday night clash against La Salle. Following a road contest at Rhode Island, the Bonnies will return home for the second weekend in a row to face first year head coach Derek Kellog and UMass (Feb. 14).

St. Bonaventure's lone extended weekend comes during back-to-back road games at George Washington and A-10 Tournament Champ Temple. The Bonnies and Colonials will square-off on Feb. 19, the only Thursday contest on the Brown and White's entire schedule. St. Bonaventure will then get two days of rest before taking on the Owls at Liacouras Center on Sunday, Feb. 22.

Two of the final three regular season games will come in front of the Reilly Center faithful as Saint Louis visits campus on Wednesday, Feb. 25. After beginning March against Saint Joseph's (Mar. 1) at The Palestra, the Bonnies will wrap up the regular season at home against Charlotte on March 7.

Dates for Homecoming Weekend and Hall of Fame Weekend will be released in the near future.
