Bonnies finish 15th in First Energy Intercollegiate

AKRON, Ohio - St. Bonaventure's golf team finished in 15th place out of 17 teams at the First Energy Intercollegiate, which was contested on Saturday and Sunday at Firestone Country Club. The Bonnies posted a team total of 927 on rounds of 309, 314 and 304. The Bonnies were able to move up one spot by virtue of Sunday's final round 304. Eastern Kentucky captured the title of the competitive event with a score of 868. Host Akron finished just one shot back at 869. Charlotte took third at 872, Eastern Michigan was fourth at 877 and Bowling Green finished fifth at 887. Ohio University was sixth at 895, followed by Northern Illinois (897), Ball State (900), Miami (901), Western Kentucky (901), Binghamton (907), Saint Joseph's (910), Georgetown (919), Youngstown State (921), St. Bonaventure, Cleveland State (929) and George Washington (932). Senior Ben Howe led the Bonnies with a total of 225 on rounds of 76, 72 and 77. Howe tied for 30th place. Junior Andy Whalen tied for 46th place with a 229 (76-77-76). Sophomore Brennan Payne shot 78-83-76/237, senior Mike Pochily shot 84-85-72/241 and junior Ryan Swanson shot 79-83-83/245. Firestone C.C. has been host to numerous PGA Tour events including some major championships. Next weekend, St. Bonaventure will compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship in Orlando, Fla.
