Bonnies in fifth after first round of Leo Keenan Invite
Oct. 5, 2008
OLEAN, N.Y. - One a day where pars were just as valuable as birdies, the St. Bonaventure golf team opened the 20th Annual Leo Keenan Invitational with the day's fifth-best round at Bartlett Country Club. The Bonnies team score of 307 puts them in closely bunched top half of the 14-team field. Just 10 strokes separate the tournament's top six teams as Atlantic 10 member Temple leads the field with a first day score of 298. Birdies came at a premium as no player broke par and Temple's Eric Plisko was the only one to finish at even-par 70. Plisko led the field with five birdies, while St. Bonaventure tied with the Owls for the team lead with 11. Little 3 rival Canisius (305) stands in a tie for second place with Ottawa University, while A-10 foe Duquesne (306) sits just a stroke a head of the Brown and White for fourth place. Sophomore Chris Stoddard was the Brown and White's top finisher with a three-over par 73 on the home course. Stoddard three birdies helped him card the fifth-best score of the afternoon. St. Bonaventure's other three scores were separated by just two strokes. Junior Nathan Peck turned in a 77, while freshman Kevin Lewis and senior Brennan Payne finished with 78 and 79, respectively. The Brown and White's "Brown" team comprised of just four players finished with a score of 314 - good for a piece of 10th place. Sophomore newcomer Kristopher Boyes turned some heads with the field's second-best round of the day at one-over par 71. Boyes ranked among the first round leaders in nearly every statistical category, highlighted by a team-best 12 pars. Freshman William Markey contributed a 77 for the "Brown" squad.
The second and final round of the 20th Annual Leo Keenan Invitational will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday with a shotgun start. For more in-depth coverage, visit the Tournament Central on www.GoBonnies.com. |
