Troy, N.Y. - Two members of the St. Bonaventure University golf team advanced to the match play portion of the New York State Men's Amateur Championship held at the Country Club of Troy. Juniors Andy Whalen and Ryan Swanson each shot a two-round total of 144 to finish tied for 8th place and advance to match play beginning on Thursday. The top 32 players advanced to match play

Swanson fired an even-par 71 on Wednesday to follow up his 73 on Tuesday. Whalen followed up an opening round 74 with a one-under par 70 on Wednesday. Swanson and Whalen trailed medalist James Welch (70-69 = 139) by five shots.

Swanson, the #10 seed, will face Aaron AuBuchon of Saratoga National (146) in the first round of match play, while Whalen (#9 seed) will take on Jim O'Connell (146) from the Country Club on Troy. Two rounds of match play will be held on Thursday.
