Whalen, Swanson reach second round but are knocked out of NYS Amateur

TROY, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure golfers Andy Whalen and Ryan Swanson both saw their runs at the New York State Amateur Championship end in Thursday's second round of match play at the Country Club of Troy.

Both players won their opening matches on Thursday morning to advance into the round of 32. Whalen defeated Jim O'Connell on O'Connell's home course, 3 and 2. Swanson posted a 4 and 3 win over Aaron AuBuchon.

In the afternoon's second round, Whalen lost 3 and 1 to Dan McCarthy while Swanson lost 5 and 4 to Zach Vinal. For complete results, visit www.nysga.org.

Whalen and Swanson will both be juniors on coach Steve Campbell's Bonnies team this year.
