Men's soccer earns regional ranking in NSCAA poll

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men’s soccer team ranks eighth in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) ninth weekly poll as announced on Monday.

This is the third national ranking in the program’s history. The last time the Bonnies were ranked as in 2004 when St. Bonaventure was tied for 25th in the NSCAA/adidas Top 25 poll.

The ranking comes after the Bonnies went 2-0 over the weekend defeating Rhode Island and Massachusetts on their home fields. The win against UMass breaks a 10-year losing streak as the last team to beat the Minutemen was in 1999 when the Bonnies won 1-0.

Atlantic 10 foes Dayton and Charlotte are tied for the number one spot, while Saint Louis and Fordham land fifth and sixth, respectively. Temple wraps up the poll in the 10th spot.

St. Bonaventure is now 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the Atlantic 10. The five conference wins are the most for the Bonnies since 1999 when the team went 8-4. St. Bonaventure is led by senior Sam Maheu who leads the Atlantic 10 in points with 27 and goals with 10. Junior keeper David Flynn is sixth in the A-10 with 56 saves.

Now one win shy of registering double-digit victories for the first time since 1999, St. Bonaventure will travel to Duquesne on Friday. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
