Men's Soccer opens play with first exhibition
Aug. 20, 2007
Houghton, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team opened its season this afternoon in a controlled exhibition match at Houghton College. Under a consistent rainfall, the Bonnies played two halves against the Highlanders allowing unlimited substitutions in the scripted match. "It was a good opportunity to play everybody," said head coach Mel Mahler. "We were not concerned with the results, but with the chance to play an opponent and finding a niche for each player." "I am highly encouraged with where we are at after six days," said Mahler. "I like our competitive depth and it is going to make my job difficult in finding a starting 11." The Brown and White return to action Thursday night when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to take on the University of Rochester in its second of three exhibition matches.
