Bonnies sign Omokhua and Amahazion
Feb. 11, 2003 ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Men's soccer coach Bill Brady announced today that two recruits signed National Letters of Intent to attend St. Bonaventure University beginning in the fall of 2003.
Striker Kevin Omokhua has been in Canada's National Program since 1999. He was named to the Under-20 National Team that competed in Mexico in January and is a candidate for the World Championship squad that will compete this spring. Omokhua previously was a member of the Under-18 Canadian National Team, which played the Irish National team in two international matches.
At Cardinal Leger Secondary, Omokhua helped capture the school's first Region of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association championship in 15 years with a record of 8-1-1. He led the team in scoring as a junior and was named team MVP.
"He's a goal scorer with great pace and athleticism," Brady said of Omokhua. "He will impact the team immediately."
Midfielder Phil Amahazion is a member of the Alberta Provincial Team and the National Training Program. He is also a candidate for the Under-20 National Team and played with Bonnies freshman Konrad Paszkowski on the Calgary Storm of the Professional Development League.
"Phil will be an impact player for us in the midfield," said Brady. "He's a natural athlete who is dangerous every time he has the ball."
The Bonnies will lose six players to graduation including four midfielders. Last season, the Bonnies finished 8-10 overall and 3-8 in the Atlantic 10 conference.
