Bonnies claim 3rd place in Atlantic 10 Championships at the end of Day Three
Feb. 23, 2007 Buffalo, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team has broken the tie with La Salle for third and now stands alone behind the University of Massachusetts (341.5) and Duquesne (322) after three days of intense competition at the Atlantic 10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. La Salle is in fourth place with 278 points, Xavier in fifth (251), Fordham in sixth (206), George Washington University in seventh (193.5), the University of Rhode Island in eighth (154) and St. Louis University in ninth (148). Senior Chris Ekimoff and junior Scott Jordan led the Bonnies with a gold medal each. Ekimoff set the pace for the 200-yard freestyle, touching first at 1:42.37. Jordan later snagged gold in the 100-yard breast with a time of 56.56. Finishing first in the consolation finals, freshman Mariusz Michalik touched at 58.98 in the 100-yard breast, good for a ninth-place finish overall. Additionally, Michalik claimed bronze for the Bona men in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 3:59.26. Juniors Jim Wood and Scott Jordan joined Michalik in the finals round, placing sixth (4:07.56) and seventh (4:09.46), respectively. Also in the finals round, junior Roman Margulis earned a fourth place finish touching at 50.39 in the 100-yard butterfly. The final day of competition for the Bonnies begins tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 24, with preliminaries starting at 10:30 a.m. and the finals round at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 9:15 a.m.
