Bonnies Nearly Sweep Final Round Of Navy Invite
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Three doubles victories
and a near clean sweep in singles action highlighted the men's
tennis team's final day of competition at the Navy Invite Sunday
against Niagara.
The Bonnies won three of the four doubles matches and six of the
seven singles matches played on the indoor courts at Tose Family
Tennis Center. All three of the Bonnies' seniors – Chris Post,
Enric
Larregola and Mikhail
Sudakov – won their singles matches, with only Larregola
needing extra sets to dispose of Brandon Gallegos, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0
(10-8).
Larregola and Sudakov then teamed up to defeat
Gallegos and Mathieu Lacasse, 8-3, in doubles action. Post went on
to partner with freshman Elliot
Fanshell for the third consecutive day, and for the third time
ended up victorious, this time defeating David Lemieux-Sarrasin and
Joseph Zelic, 9-8 (7-5). Post and Fanshell were crowned flight
champions at No. 2 doubles for their clean sweep of the
weekend.
Billy
Cove got his first crack at the doubles circuit, but it wasn't
with one of his Bonnies' teammates. The freshman partnered with
Navy's Heyward Drayton to beat Niagara's John Baird and Navy's
Chris Kenney, 8-5. The Navy Invite is a flighted, round robin
invitational, so no team scoring is kept and thus there is no
effect on the team's overall record.
The Bonnies won't take to the courts again until early October
when they head to another service academy to square off in the Army
Invite Oct. 8-10.
