Cross Country teams open season at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The St. Bonaventure men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons at the Duquesne Duals on Saturday.

The men finished 1-3, while the women were 0-4. The competition was scored in head-to-head format only.

The men defeated Penn State-Altoona, 25-30, but fell to Carnegie Mellon, 24-35, Duquesne 15-50, and Pittsburgh 15-50.

The women lost to Pittsburgh, 15-50, Duquesne, 15-50, Carnegie Mellon, 15-50, and Penn State-Altoona, 15-47.

On the men's side, senior Jason Schulz placed first for St. Bonaventure in a time of 28:26, good for 24th out of 58 runners. Junior Andy Shulha and senior Brian Thiermann placed second and third for the Bonnies, finishing 26th and 27th in times of 28:51 and 28:52, respectively. Freshmen Grant Lytle and Joe Perry finished fourth and fifth for St. Bonaventure posting times of 32:04 and 32:22, respectively. Senior Phil Corrigan finished sixth and posted a time of 34:26.

Sophomore Caitlin Morris finished first for the Bonnies with an overall time of 24:00, placing her 54th out of 64 runners. Junior Mary Harruff and senior Jesica Hendrick finished second and third for the Bonnies, posting times of 25:09 and 25:41, respectively. Sophomores Cason Morrisette and Lucy Morrisette finished fourth and fifth for St. Bonaventure posting times of 25:54 and 26:00.

The Bonnies return to action Saturday, September 10, at the Fordham Invitational.
