St. Bonaventure WNIT banner to be unveiled in Reilly Center
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St.
Bonaventure women’s basketball team will be honored for its
magical 2009 WNIT run by having a banner unveiled to commemorate
the season. The banner will be uncovered prior to the start of the
men’s exhibition game against Mansfield at 7:00 p.m. on
Friday at the Reilly Center.
Seniors from the 2008-09 team along with this year’s club that were part of last year’s season will be in attendance.
Last year’s season was the most successful campaign in St. Bonaventure history. The Bonnies won a program-best 23 games, breaking the previous season’s record by five victories. The Brown and White made their first postseason appearance and highlighted it with two wins against BIG EAST foe West Virginia and Big Ten contender Wisconsin.
The Bonnies won nine Atlantic 10 games in the 2008-09 season, including wins against Temple and Charlotte, setting a program record for most conference wins in a single-season. St. Bonaventure finished the season in a four-way tie for fourth place in the A-10 with its 9-5 conference record. Its seventh seed in the 2009 A-10 Tournament tied the 2007-08 club with the highest ranking in the tournament since 1996-97.
Before the unveiling of the banner, the Bonnies take on Mansfield in an exhibition contest at 5 p.m. at the Reilly Center. St. Bonaventure officially kicks off its season on the road against Binghamton on November 13 at 7 p.m. in the Events Center.
