Women end regular season with loss at Xavier
Feb. 27, 2005 CINCINNATI, Ohio - All-Conference junior forward Tara Boothe scored 22 points to lead Xavier past St. Bonaventure 75-43 on Sunday afternoon at the Cintas Center in the final regular season game for both teams. The Bonnies were victimized by another slow start. Boothe scored 13 of her points over the game's first 9:41, leading the Musketeers to a 20-9 lead to open the game. Xavier expanded its lead to as many as 16 before settling for a 34-19 advantage at intermission. St. Bonaventure made only seven of its 22 (31 percent) field goal attempts in the first half. In the second half, Xavier quickly pushed its lead over 20 points and the Bonnies were never able to threathen. St. Bonaventure finished the regular season 9-18 overall and 4-12 in conference play. The Bonnies and Saint Joseph's tied for the final spot in the A-10 East division. However, St. Bonaventure lost the tiebreaker for seeding in the A-10 Championship and thus will face Richmond, the third place team from the West, in the opening round of the Championship at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 4. The A-10 Women's Basketball Championship will be played at George Washington University's Smith Center in Washington, D.C. Xavier, which won its 19th game overall (19-8) and finished 13-3 in the A-10 - tied with George Washington for first place in the A-10 West -- went 7-18 from three-point range and shot 48 percent from the field overall. The Bonnies shot only 33 percent from the field and went 5-16 from long range. Xavier dominated on the backboards, 39-24. Junior guard Stefanie Collins led St. Bonaventure with 11 points. She also swiped three steals. Senior forward Tory Vyborny added 10 points but went without a rebound. Sophomore forward Audrey Latendresse added eight points, and freshman guard Priscilla Edwards scored seven points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. The Bonnies were guilty of 24 turnovers.
