April 9, 2009
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure women's basketball senior Katelyn Murray was just named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Women's Scholar-Athlete Team on in voting conducted by the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA).
This is the seventh annual season that the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Men's and Women's Scholar-Athlete Teams were given out. Murray is the first St. Bonaventure student athlete, male or female, to receive the honor.
The selection onto the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Women's Scholar-Athlete Team is the fourth significant academic award Murray has collected this season. Murray was named to both the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team and the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I first team selection for the second straight season due to her success on the court and in the classroom. Murray was also named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team for the second straight season.
Murray currently has a 4.0 grade point average in biology as she finishes up her senior year at St. Bonaventure. The Harrisburg, Pa. native combined her excellence in the classroom with stellar play on the court during the Bonnies record setting 2008-09 season. Murray finished the season ranked second on the team in both scoring (11.4) and three-point percentage (38 percent). Murray also led the team in three-pointers made with 60, which is the ninth highest total in a single season in program history, and steals with 37. Murray also joined the Brown and White's 1,000-point club earlier this season in a win over Rhode Island, making her just the 17th player to achieve the feat.
Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. He/she must have reached junior athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed at least three academic semesters/five quarters at the nominated institution.
