"For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else".
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Where does the time go? That was fast, non conference, conference, senior day and now the conference tourney. For the majority of the season we were riding high, didn't really lose a lot of games, then last week hit. Last week we dropped three games in a row, all very winnable, but all very disappointing outcome. Worst, for the first time in a long time we did something we hadn't done all year....we doubted. Why you ask? Who knows. It could have been pressure, frustration, it could have been anything. That's the thing about doubt anything can trigger it and once it sets in its so hard to shake off.
Now I'm terrible at math but allow me to explain this math equation with you all.
Belief > Doubt
Doubt = Disappointment
Loss of Belief + Doubt = Disappointing 3 game skid
Math Lesson learned.
It was after those three games I realized more than ever the power of believing. Not only believing in yourself, but believing in one another as well as what you do. So after some serious soul searching and refocusing we came out Saturday afternoon to play Charlotte. I was back into the starting lineup along with Dana and my fellow seniors Kate, Ash and E. You could feel the resurgence in the air. Everything felt good, from the pre-game meal to the warm up. As soon as the ball was tipped I had no doubt in my mind we were going to win. Two hours later we got the W (in a somewhat stunning fashion). But more importantly we were ourselves again. For the first time in a long time we got our swag back and it felt great.
So here we are at the cusp of the season. With Sunday signifying the beginning of March, it also signifies the beginning of the most important month for the college basketball world. We leave for the A-10 tourney tomorrow to take on St. Joes on Friday. I can't really explain my thoughts on the game. I'm excited to play of course, but a part of me is nervous because I know that we are only guaranteed one game from now on. I've been here before plenty of times and regardless of anything else I know one thing is for sure.
We'll be ready.
There are many things in this world that we have no control over. Fortunately there are certain things we do have full control over. We control how hard we play, we control how focused we are, most importantly we control weather we believe or doubt. Even amongst a room full of doubters we control whether or not we listen. For the majority of this amazing season we have chosen not to listen. We have chosen to prove to OURSELVES we are a very good team, and deserve everything we have accomplished this year. No matter the outcome of this season we know who we are and we'll never stop believing.
I'll be writing my final entry soon, so be on the lookout for that. Until then keep it real, keep believing ... and go Bonnies!
