Christy Malone enters her fourth season as the women’s lacrosse coach, the program's third coach in its 12-year history.
Last season, Malone’s squad won seven contests, including a perfect 3-0 record at neutral sites. The team was led by Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team selection and team captain Molly Hastrich, who finished the season with 62 goals and 15 assists. Behind Hastrich, Christine Hanley tallied 48 goals and 15 assists. Keri Vito also earned a spot on the Academic All-Conference team.
Even though the team only won seven contests, the Bonnies outscored opponents 220 to 198, outshot opponents 481 to 480, and tallied 391 shots on goal to 362 for the opposition.
In her first season at the helm of the Brown and White, Malone guided the Bonnies to four wins in a season marked by heartbreak. The Bonnies suffered five one-goal losses, including three in overtime, while enduring a rigorous nine road games on the season. Three wins in the final five games gave Malone a solid ending to her first season, including a pair over Atlantic 10 foes.
Several student-athletes received individual accolades under Malone’s guidance in 2008, highlighted by goalie Eboni Preston being named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year - the first in program history. Preston finished as the national leader in saves per game (12.1) and was second nationally in save percentage (.541).
Malone's knowledge does not stop at the defensive end, as she
also helped the offensive players earn conference and regional
recognition. Among those four was Kimberly Ross who snagged a spot
on the A-10 All-Conference first team and IWLCA All-Region second
team.
Before coming to St. Bonaventure, Malone spent five seasons at
Division II Philadelphia University, serving as head coach her
final four seasons.
Malone posted a 39-21 overall record at Philadelphia, and helped lead the Rams to the ECAC Division II Championship in the spring of 2007. Under her tutelage, the Rams made three ECAC postseason appearances, highlighted by the 2007 championship.
Malone coached nine All-Americans or All-Region selections, including three in the 2005 season. Her immediate impact at Philadelphia did not go unnoticed, as she was named the coach of the 2004 Division II Senior All-Star Game at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County following her first season.
