2002, 2003 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year In each of his four seasons, Tony Zostant has taken the St. Bonaventure lacrosse program to new heights. Named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in both 2002 and 2003, Zostant has already amassed 39 wins as the Bonnies' coach and 107 for his career. One of the best offensive minds in the nation, Zostant has embroidered his style of play on St. Bonaventure lacrosse. Under the tutelage of Zostant, the Bonnies have ranked in the top five in the nation in goals per game in each of the last three seasons.


Last spring, Zostant recorded his 100th career victory when he guided St. Bonaventure to a 13-9 win at Virginia Tech. The Bonnies finished the season with a 10-6 record, marking the third straight season St. Bonaventure has totaled 10 or more wins under Zostant's guidance. In his third season, he led the Bonnies to their first winning record in the Atlantic 10 (4-3) and their second straight appearance in the A-10 Tournament. Also under his direction, St. Bonaventure ranked first nationally in draw controls per game (14.9) and fourth in goals per game (13.4). In 2003, St. Bonaventure won a school record 12 games. Zostant led the Bonnies to their first appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and a school record 12 wins, including a 10-game winning streak to start the season. The Bonnies finished 12-5 and were ranked fifth nationally in scoring at 12.6 goals per game. In his first season, Zostant led the Bonnies to a 7-9 mark that included the program's first-ever Atlantic 10 wins. The Bonnies captured their first A-10 win against La Salle, pulling out a dramatic 11-10 victory over the Explorers. During the 2002 campaign, Zostant guided St. Bonaventure to a four-game winning streak.


St. Bonaventure players have enjoyed numerous individual successes during Zostant's two seasons. He recruited the 2002 A-10 Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Conference selection, Kelly Chevez, who last year finished her career with an astonishing 240 points. Last season, Courtney Gibbons was the third Bona player under Zostant's guidance to earn All-Conference accolades, joining Chevez and Laura Spaulding. Zostant's players also achieve in the classroom. In 10 of his 11 years as a head coach, Zostant's squads have held a team GPA of 3.0 or better. In each of his five seasons at St. Bonaventure, one of his players has been named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. Last season, the Bonnies earned their second straight National Academic Squad Award.


Zostant came to St. Bonaventure in July 2001 from SUNY-Brockport. He was a head coach at the NCAA Division III level for seven years and never had a losing record. At Brockport, he amassed a 19-12 record over two seasons. He was named the 2001 State University of New York Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to the SUNYAC semifinals and a 10-5 record. Zostant also was the head coach at Nazareth College for five seasons. There, he compiled a record of 49-18, highlighted by an 11-3 mark and an ECAC Tournament appearance in 1999. Four of his five seasons, Nazareth won at least 10 games. Zostant began his coaching career at LeMoyne, where he served as head women's lacrosse coach in 1993. A native of Johnstown, N.Y., Zostant and his wife, Kerry, have a son, Connor, who is two.
