ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — For the second time in a
week, St. Bonaventure women’s soccer juniors Courtney Bosse and Nicole
Markert earned some individual accolades, as they were
named to different Atlantic 10 All-Conference teams on the eve of
the conference postseason tournament.
Bosse was named to the All-Conference first team, while Markert
earned her way onto the Academic All-Conference team. Bosse’s
selection to the first team marks the second straight season the
Bonnies have landed a player on the first team.
The duo made the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 second
team later last week.
“I’m happy for Courtney and Nicole. It’s always
nice to get recognized by the conference,” said head coach
Manoj Khettry. “Both of them worked
extremely hard in the offseason so it’s nice to see them get
rewarded.”
Bosse enters postseason play as the team leader in points (17) and
goals (8). Five of her team-high eight goals came in conference
play, as the Brown and White went 5-0 in the games that she scored
in. The Carmel, Ind. native has produced four-game winners on the
year, ranking her in a tie for third in the A-10. She also ranks in
the top 10 in the conference in shots (50), points and goals making
her just one of five players to accomplish that feat. Bosse was
named the league’s first Player of the Week back on Aug. 24,
after she scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Syracuse.
A math major with a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average (GPA),
Markert has had a breakout season in her third campaign. The
Russell, Ohio product posted an 8-7 record in the regular season
with a solid 1.10 goals against average. Atlantic 10 play is where
she shined, though, allowing just nine goals over 11 games,
highlighted by a program record five shutouts. Markert finished
conference action with a 0.74 goals against average and .871 save
percentage. Along the way, Markert picked up her 20th career win
and 200th career save.
Bosse and Markert will lead fourth-seeded St. Bonaventure (10-10,
7-4) into the A-10 Tournament on Thursday at 8 p.m. against
fifth-seeded Saint Louis (7-8-4, 4-4-3). The Bonnies finished in a
tie for third place with Fordham, but lost the head-to-head
tie-breaker. The two teams met last year at the A-10 Tournament,
with the Billikens prevailing by a 2-1 margin. St. Bonaventure did
win the meeting between the two teams earlier this season at home
by a 1-0 outcome.
Charlotte will play host to the entire A-10 Tournament that will
also feature an opening round matchup between third-seeded Fordham
and sixth-seeded UMass at 5:30 p.m. Regular season champ Dayton and
Charlotte received first round byes. Live stats and video of every
game can be found at the A-10 Tournament Central.
