Brown and White notch series sweep in fall finale

Sept. 23, 2007

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure softball team closed its fall schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Pitt-Bradford, cruising by the Panthers 10-0 in game one and 7-1 in the second contest earlier this afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.

The Brown and White opened the series with a two-run home run off the bat of senior Brianna Bricker in the first inning of the day. The Albion, Pa. native finished with three RBI for the contest.

After a scoreless second inning at the plate, the Bonnies registered five runs in the bottom of the third inning led by a two-RBI double from freshman Kara Morenus.

Senior Patricia McKeon connected on two hits at the plate and finished with one RBI in the opener.

In continuance of the Bonnies fall pitching brilliance, sophomore Sherri Thompson allowed a single hit while striking out nine Panthers' batters in the opener.

The Brown and White offense picked up where it left off in the opener, posting all of the club's seven runs in the first two innings of the second contest.

The Bonnies received a pair of RBI triples from Bricker and junior Caitlyn Tydings in a four-run first inning. Freshman Maureen Wells added to the offensive outburst with two RBI.

Following Thompson's series opening performance in the circle, Bricker fanned seven batters while allowing only three hits in five innings of work. Thompson recorded one strikeout in two innings of relief work.

"It was a great weekend," said head coach Mike Threehouse. "We welcomed the alumnae back on Saturday and then produced two wins today for a very productive fall season. Bricker and Thompson have proven that we are in good hands in the pitching circle come the spring of 2008."

The Brown and White will return to action this spring in the team's quest for a return to postseason play.
