St. Bona Cross Country opens season at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Battling torrential downpours and sloppy conditions, the St. Bonaventure men's and women's cross country teams both opened their seasons with a seventh place finish at the Duquesne Invitational on Saturday. The University of Pittsburgh took first in men's race, while Duquesne took first place on the women's side. Clarion junior Chris Clark broke the tape first in the men's race in 25:33, while Duquesne junior Samantha Howard's time of 18:01 was best for the women. The Bona men were led by senior Andrew Shulha who finished in 33rd place. Shulha posted a time of 28:14. Sophomore Justin Isaman was the second Bonnie to cross the finish line, placing 62nd overall with a time of 30:20. Sophomore Grant Lytle posted a time of 31:26, good for 78th place. Running in their first collegiate race, the freshmen duo of Michelle Damcott and Sarah Popovics led the way for the women. Damcott finished 40th overall with a time of 21:29, while Popovics crossed the finish line just l1 seconds later (21:40) in 45th place. Sarah Dressler was the next Bonnie to finish, coming in 57th place with a time of 23:23. Freshman Lauren Wentworth posted a time of 23:29, good for 59th. Seniors Carrie Jackling (23:46, Jesica Hendrick (25:07), Mary Harruff (25:23) and Margaret Kubiak (25:52) rounded out the St. Bonaventure runners.
The Bonnies will compete next on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Fordham Invitational. |
