Cross Country competes in Fordham Invitational

BRONX, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's cross country team turned in a 17th place finish and the men finished in 18th position on Saturday afternoon at the Fordham Invitational. Navy claimed first place on the men's side, while Penn won the women's race. Freshman Sarah Popovics finished the five-mile course in 22:31 to take 85th out of a field of 159 runners. Freshmen Michelle Damcott and Ashley Sandau were the next two Bonnies to finish, posting times of 23:42 and 24:09, respectively. Seniors Sarah Dressler (24:18) and Carrie Jackling (24:41) finished just seconds later to round-out the Bona top five. Seniors Jesica Hendrick (25:46), Margaret Kubiak (25:49) and Mary Harruff (26:30), along with freshman Lauren Wentworth (27:55) completed the lineup. On the men's side, senior Andrew Shulha finished first for the Bona men for the second straight race as he completed the 8K run in a time of 28:51, good for 73rd in the field of 180. Sophomore Justin Isaman posted a time of 31:12 for second on team and the 131st position overall. Senior Matthew Wilber and freshman David Herlihy finished almost side-by-side as they came in at 32:28 and 32:32, respectively. Just over a minute later (33:35), sophomore Grant Lytle became the fifth and final Bonnie to cross the finish line.
The Bonnies will return to action on Friday, Sept. 15, when they take part in the National Catholic Championships hosted by Notre Dame University. The women's race will start at 4:15 p.m., while the men will begin at 5. |
